If you take a handful of vitamin C tablets, whenever you feel the sniffles coming on, you may not be helping anyone except the pharmaceutical company. On the other hand, you may be preventing or at least lessening the effects of an impending cold. This pretty much sums up the feeling of the experts on the value of vitamin supplements. No one really knows the benefits of vitamin and mineral supplements taken as a preventative or curative and instructor in the university. of Arizona College of Pharmacy James Moore's believes that while vitamins have value that they are many times misused. Moore says that with all the fad ism, people have stopped looking to professionals for advice on what is really healthy. Moore says while specific vitamins and minerals can aid certain conditions, there's no rationale for taking vitamins to cure aches and pains. Just because a popular magazine article promotes it. You have a Health Sciences Center dietician Helen Smitherman concurs, pointing out that taking certain vitamins in large doses is not only foolish, but sometimes harmful. She said the normal healthy person generally doesn't need vitamin supplements. Smitherman added that some people however, may need a daily multivitamin supplement. She suggest that you take a look at your diet. And if it doesn't include a balance of foods and you're not willing to change your eating habits, then you probably should include a vitamin supplement.
