And so that's like a no, no joke. You need that on you. And I lost it, because when you enter the air assault, like training school area, you you have to do these things called fives and dimes. So in, in 2023, I deployed in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, which is the Eastern Europe kind of like, it was kind of like a show of force, and we're still doing it currently, but it's like a show of force to kind of like, say, hey, Russia. Like, don't come further towards NATO. You know, whatever it was, just like, kind of buffing up the border of Eastern Europe. So I went to Poland and Romania and so, yeah, 2023, we fly over there on a giant Atlas. 767, freaking ginormous, gigantic plane. We all go over there. I don't know how much I can speak about, but it was pretty cool. It was a, I was in a little, a little FOB, like, right outside of a town called Jav Poland, and we were just, pretty much, like, doing security. We were in charge of, like, pulling security on, like, all the weapons shipments that were going to Ukraine, because the base we were at, I don't know how much of this I can say, actually, but the base that we were at was very, very, very close to the border of Ukraine, within a 40 minute drive. So that was the choke point that was like the bottleneck of, like Eastern Europe, to that SEC section of the world where we were sending weapons and receiving destroyed tanks and destroyed stuff. And then they would bring it through our choke point, repair it, clean it, get it ready to go back, and we would send it back. And so it was, like, actually really cool mission. And it kind of like supported a huge thing that's very much still going on. And it was really cool. I got to meet, like, Ukrainian dudes on our FOB. I met. I got a Ukrainian dudes patch. We patch traded and stuff. It was like a big NATO operation. And so we had Ukrainians, which are not part of NATO, by the way, but they were there, Swedes, Germans poles. There were a ton of countries there, and they were all super cool. We did some training with them. We were all just part of, like, that big support mission for for them. So like, we would go and do security in like four man teams on like these big facilities, and so there are multiple sites that we would go to, and so I'm not gonna name, like, the company, or like, what was going on. So at the end of March, like a month ago, not even a month ago, like three weeks ago, he just ETS. Finally got out. He just moved out to Tucson to go to the U of A, oh shit. So he actually lives like on Speedway in Tucson. Well, I don't know why I'm giving out where the fuck he lives, but so he, he moved out here. He's living here. He's going to the U of A and I convinced him to do that because he so we were in the same platoon, different squads, but we were, we were just like best friends, always going out to Nashville, always doing all this stuff, you know, going out to the field. You had buddies that you bonded with, like, super closely. And so it was like me, him and my buddy, Pinkerton, Andrew Pinkerton, we're all efores, just like it was like the mafia, you know, before mafia. And so John just moved out here, and I'm super excited about that. And he's, he's probably actually thinking about joining my reserve unit. I don't know if I talked about my reserve stuff in here, like it's not that cool. Actually. I. I won't I want to go into that, but, uh, yeah, so that's cool. I thought I would add that, because it's just kind of a crazy story. He's from Virginia. Was at the 101st with me. We just stayed friends. We stayed close friends. I was telling him, like, dude, I'm in school. Like, it's awesome. And he had, like, another year left, when I got out almost, like 10 months left, and I convinced him, and now he lives here. PL, alright, so this is, this is a little, this is a kind of crazy. So this was in, I want to say, May of 2023 right after EIB. We went to squad live fire out in the field at Campbell. And so basically, it's like each squad will go through a lane, a live fire lane, and you get graded on it, and you know, they'll like, it's just like a simulated, like battle, kind of where they have like, oh, there's a bunker. Like, this squad needs to assault the bunker, and then each squad will go through it and do it and, like, they'll just reset you and make sure, like, You're doing everything right. It's like, good training. But. After the squad live fire, you go into a platoon live fire exercise, and so you kind of work up to it. And during my platoon live fire, it was actually outrageous. So we're all, we're like deep in the live fire. It's, it's the, I think this was the daytime iteration. It could have been the nighttime my my memory is a little jogged, but I'm, I was in weapons squad. I'm with my 240 gunner. He's going ham on the 240 doing support by fire. Our other gun is doing support by fire. Sounds magnificent. Everything's good. And we have radios. So like, right before I got out, kind of like 2023 2024 we got these new radios, and every team leader had a headset and a radio, and you could hear everything that was going on. Yeah. And so I had a radio. My other, AG, had a radio. My squad leader had a radio, and we're just hearing like some crazy shit happening. We're doing sport by fire, and then they call like a cease fire, and we're about to advance to where the rest of the platoon is. Yeah, and we hear on the radio the OCS are freaking out at my platoon leader, which was a girl we that was my first female PL, it doesn't matter what she was, but she almost blew herself up on a Bangalore because so during the platoon live fire, it's it you'll have like An engineer element. That's sometimes you'll have an engineer element that's, like, embedded with you or attached to you, and you'll have, like, forward observers and stuff that are all attached, and it's like a big symphony of combat arms, yeah, and you're all working together to, like, destroy the objective. And so the engineers are at the sea wire at the breach. So it was, we were doing an attack on a bunker. So there's a bunker, there's a bunch of sea wire, like, around it, yeah. And so the engineers laid down a Bangalore. They're still called Bangalore's. I thought it was a World War Two thing. It's still called a Bangalore. They laid it down, and they're about to use the clacker and, like, blow it up. And my PL just starts sprinting. She starts sprinting towards it before it had blown and she thought she was like, GI Joe or something like, the PL should never, ever be leading the charge. Period. The PL is like the command and control of the platoon. She needs to be in the middle he or she needs to be in the middle of the platoon, commanding and controlling it using her radio, and if the PL is charging at the front or shooting at all, you're probably gonna die. Someone's fucked up. Something is really fucked up. And she decided it was a good idea to sprint out of the forest and run towards the breach before they had blown the charge. And she ended up getting decked by an OC, because you'll have like graders that are out there, and they have like radios, and they're just out there grading us the OC, like, had to deck her and actually, like, tackle her to the ground because she was about to blow herself up on a Bangalore even the engineers were like, Whoa, stop. And she's sprinting like she wanted to get blown up and those, he had to take her out and, like, haul ass and like, take her down, dude. It was outrageous. And I heard all of this on the radio, and I was just like, What the fuck? And this is so mean, but at the F so after each iteration, you'll do like an AAR report, which is an after action report, and the those C's and the graders and, like, usually you'll have like, A, B, C or SAR major out there, they'll be like, Hey, you did this really good, and you did this really bad. And they were grilling my PL, they were grilling her, and she was new at the time, they were grilling her so bad that she started crying. She started crying, she started crying, and then she ran away, like, after the AAR, she like, ran away and was crying. And I just was like, Whoa,","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877#t=3253.0,3552.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877/transcript/81680/annotation/156","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"SPEAKER 3: dude. You know, the reserves is pretty easy going, and they let you switch from active to reserves pretty easily because it's federal, so I'm not really worried about being able to do what I want. They're pretty forgiving, and they're, you know, federal. It'd be different if I was in the guard, but yeah, with my reserve gig now I'm at 4/16 civil affairs battalion in San Diego, so I go there once a month for three day drill, and it's pretty awesome. I'm getting promoted to e5 in June, and once I hit either 60 credits, college credits or graduate, I want to commission whichever, whichever works out. I don't really have a preference. It's not very pressing to me. And who knows what's going to go from there. You know, I I still have an itch to scratch. I think with the military, you know, I needed a break. So, like, college is a great break. It's a great break. This is way less stressful than what I was doing in the army, like Active Duty infantry, you have no life. It's all just like, go, go, go, go, go, go, get drunk, go, go, go, go to the gym, go, go, go. It's just like, Yeah, this is way more easygoing. Even taking 19 credits is more easy than being a full time junior enlisted infantry guy. And so I, yeah, I don't think I'll be an infantryman ever again. But, uh, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna weigh out my options. I think maybe SFAs in my future would be really cool Special Forces Assessment and Selection. I think that would be a cool option and just go guard 19th group. That's like, probably my top option for like, what I would love to do and for ease of travel, because the units actually their home, their headquarters is in Utah, so it's like I would just have to go up there once a month.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877#t=61.0,62.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877/transcript/81680/annotation/167","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER 1:0: So you just don't want to be soaking.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877#t=63.0,62.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877/transcript/81680/annotation/168","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER 1:0: No soaking for me, no","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877#t=63.0,62.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2980/collection_resources/153170/file/281877/transcript/81680/annotation/169","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER 1:0: soaking.
