Well, first of all, I should maybe point out that this kind of instruction on the guitar is only is just part of what we're doing in the learning laboratory. And we all we also have, we also do singing activities and movement activities and Musical Games. So it isn't always just sitting and, you know, working away on the guitar. Amy, did you notice how Mr. Patterson and Mr. Saul's were sitting earlier, when they were playing the guitar, they, they were sitting in a very special way. And they were they were sitting in a way that that helps them hold the guitar in in a way that they can play it easily. I like to actually think of that is, is training training your guitar to behave itself. Have you ever seen any trained animals of any kind like, like dolphins, or lions and tigers that jumped through hoops and things like that? Yeah. Yeah, well, you can sort of think of the guitar is a little bit like, like an animal. It's got a long neck like a giraffe and a little bitty head up here and The idea of training your guitar is to get it so it'll sit and stay in your lap. Okay. And we're gonna try to do that. Right now instead of me doing it, let's, let's see about you doing it. Okay, your foots already up on this footstool that we have. And Amy also has a foam pad, let's hold this up so everyone can see it. This is called the magic pillow. And this helps to hold the guitar in place on that leg. Okay, so here you go. Looks good. Now one of the hardest things about holding the guitar, you see this long neck that the guitar has, it tends to make the guitar want to fall down this way, just let go of your guitar for a second. Yeah, let go this hand to see how that just wants to tip over that way. So we want to try to get this guitar to sit and stay in your lap. Okay, we want it to be really unbalanced. So we can see this kind of fat part of the guitar down here, we have to get that down, kind of between your knees. So if you bring this knee out to the side, and then we'll try to get this down like that. There we go. See how much better that's in balance now. Right, there are three places where the guitar is going to come into contact with you. One is on top of your leg here. And it's resting on the magic pillow there to help it stay in place. Also, it's going to be in contact with this leg over here. And then the top of it is going to be leaning against your chest. And that keeps it pretty well. in balance. You see, it's almost balanced all by itself. Now if you take this arm, and bring it over the top of the guitar, and just take one finger and press one finger against the guitar, it pretty much stays in place by itself, doesn't it? And you see now if you just stay like you are, you have this hand completely free. Okay, that means that later on when you get into playing note on the neck as a guitar, that this hand is completely free, and you don't have to hold up the guitar like you were doing earlier. Okay, that's great. So this is really the first step of playing the guitar and Amy's gotten it right away. She now has a train guitar that's really behaving itself very well.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1078/collection_resources/73572/file/159320#t=817.0,1051.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1078/collection_resources/73572/file/159320/transcript/37767/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER: What Following this, what would be the first lesson that you would provide a child? So so we just take it one step at a time. This is actually the first lesson is, you know, getting a feel of the balance of the instrument.
