We do know that exercise, however, does have a very definite effect on the heart and on the circulation. People that are in endurance training programs, such as jogging programs will see their resting heart rate decreased by maybe 20, or 30. Beats man, they might start at 80 beats per minute, it might drop to as low as 50, or even as low as 40 beats per minute, so that the actual stress or work of the heart is reduced considerably. Throughout the majority of the day, people feel better, they're under less stress and tension. And there's a lot of changes that go on that are really facilitating the individual's health. With regard to obesity, we definitely know that there are changes in the body composition of the individual, people get discouraged when they use exercise, because their scale weight doesn't change very much. But what's really happening is that their fat weight is decreasing, and they're increasing their muscle mass because they're now using their muscles again, so the to more or less counterbalance each other. And so the scale weight is sort of discouraging, and yet they notice that their clothes don't fit quite as well anymore.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1953/collection_resources/73804/file/159487#t=197.0,262.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1953/collection_resources/73804/file/159487/transcript/37670/annotation/15","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER: You know, what would be kind of fun would be for you to give us an exercise prescription, if you could, is there such a thing?","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1953/collection_resources/73804/file/159487#t=263.0,269.999"},{"id":"https://arizona.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1953/collection_resources/73804/file/159487/transcript/37670/annotation/16","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"UNKNOWN SPEAKER: Well, yes. And frequently, what happens is you become dehydrated. In addition, you have the exercise contributing to the total amount of heat that the body is accumulating. And so therefore, you're getting the trouble in two ways with regard to how the body maintains body temperature. And so it's not unusual at all to see athletes that are competing, or even training in hot weather getting into fairly severe difficulties during heat training. So we always advise people to go out in the cooler part of the day, to try to stay out of the direct sun as they possibly can. And to keep their body well hydrated. We have just recently hired a sports psychologist that will be joining us in about two weeks. And one of the big problems that we hope to start attacking this year is how do you how do you first of all, get people's attention? get them started on a good program? And then probably most importantly, how do you keep them on a program? How do you maintain motivation? Those people that are into running long distance running or or slow jogging, if they're able to go more than 30 or 40 minutes a day, there's a real strange phenomena that occurs they appear to get addicted or have an addiction to this activity. And if they have to go for a day without that activity, they just are climbing the wall literally.
