I'm Kent Rollins, director of the Arizona Alumni Association and your host for this program. If you like jazz music or if you like the arts, I think you're really going to enjoy today's show. Not only do we have some performances, but we'll talk with a number of guests about the importance of the fine arts to the state of Arizona and its citizens. Among our guests today, we have Dr. Donald Irving, Dean of the fine arts college or Fine Arts faculty at the University. He's going to tell us a little bit about the various programs that we have. We have also Park Stickney, who played the harp you saw him is we open the show today. He is excellent, and he's going to be playing for us again later on. We have maybe Arizona's best jazz band, the olive street Stompers. We have Rhonda Tinsley, who was a student director in the fine arts program. And Richard, Michael Grady, excuse me, who is a playwright, and has written a play called dancers. And finally, Dennis Jones, who we're going to talk to in just a minute, is a well known sculptor. I found in two groups. One the entertainers, a group of eight, musical comedy students cross between, across major between drama and music, and they perform an original piece each year. That involves song and dance, and acting skills on stage. That group performed more than 50 performances last year in state fairs, county fairs around the state and in a variety of other situations. They left at the beginning of the year talented students and came back seasoned professionals, pre professionals at the end of that tour, another group, that group of another kind. The Arizona choir is a excellent group of vocal students with some non music majors in the group that took that and Mary Scott is the director of that. That chorus is one of the leading choral directors, if not, indeed the leading choral director in the country. And he took that group, not only on an Arizona tour, but on an international tour.
